Polysomnogram
Also referred to as PSG (Diagnostic) or Baseline Study which literally means poly(multiple) – somno(sleep) – gram(measurement). PSG is an overnight test conducted in a sleep center. Multiple parameters are monitored simultaneously including, sleep stages or brain activity, respiratory, heart rhythm, oxygen level, muscle activity, just to name a few.

PAP Titration
Stands for Positive Airway Pressure; it’s a type of polysomnography which involves administration of PAP treatment such as CPAP, Bi-level, and ASV (auto servo ventilator) for patients diagnosed with sleep disordered breathing.

Split Night Study
This test is a combination of PSG and PAP Titration where usually the first two to three hour portion of the study is ran as diagnostic and the rest is therapeutic or administration of PAP therapy per lab protocol.

Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT)
This is a form of sleep study conducted during the day, comprised of 5 series of naps with 2 hour break in between each nap. It’s a standard tool used to diagnose narcolepsy and hypersomnolence.

Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT)
This day study is basically a type of endurance test where the patient is asked to refrain from falling asleep. It is comprised of 4 trials with two hour break in between in each trial. This test is usually conducted for patients who work in a transportation related field or even law enforcement.

Home Sleep Apnea Test (HSAT)
Is an unattended portable diagnostic sleep study performed at home. The device is picked up from the sleep center where they receive instructions from the technician. The data is recorded in the device which is downloaded to the computer, upon return, following the night of the recording.

Mask Fitting/ PAP Desensitization
Is a service provided to our patients who are having difficulty tolerating or acclimating with their PAP device or masks. The session usually last no longer than an hour. The patients are shown how to properly fit the mask, as well as techniques to help them increase compliance.
